It seems like every luxury brand has a "gimmick"

Which, really, in my mind isn’t a bad thing.

Audi/Acura = All Wheel Drive (quattro and SH-AWD)

BMW/Infiniti = “Sporty” luxury.

Mercedes/Lexus = Engineering and build quality, although Mercedes has slipped in recent years, I’m thinking they’re on the way back up though. The Daimler-Chrysler days were a rough time.

Genesis = Value, basically what Lexus were doing back in the early 90s, you get a whole lot of car, for a whole lot less, or you will once Genesis cars go on sale. Currently true for the Hoondai Genesis and Equus, also the K900.

Jaaaaag = Superchargers. I don’t think there’s a Jag model on sale that isn’t supercharged. Same goes for LR, but I believe only a few models in the RR lineup have blowers.

Maybach/Rolls/Bentley = Almost obnoxious levels of opulence and luxury.

Maserati = Basically more practical Ferraris. Slightly (and only very slightly) less likely to catch on fire.

Alfa = Styling.

Cadillac = A mix of value and “sporty” luxury.

Volvo = Safety, duh.

I don’t really consider Chrysler, Buick, or Lincoln as luxury brands. They’re all comfort brands.

I can’t tell if I’ve missed anybody.

Germans = Oh, you want a basic luxury feature that is standard in cars half the price? That will be a $6000 package.

I’d say Volvo for styling too.

what you just described or not what I would Define as gimmicks. For me a gimmick is putting your company’s logo in the puddle lamps on the doors.

I think Hyundai has been moving in the comfort luxury direction, or at least they were with the Equus.

That thing is just beyond good. The Hyundai Equus is the closest thing to a Cadillac Fleetwood or Lincoln Town Car we have left. It’s quiet, the styling is subdued but chrome plated, the V8 is powerful but not brutish, and it drives like it’s made out of pillows and memory foam. I hope to be able to pick up a 2012 in a few years. The Hyundai Equus, for people who want an actual American luxury sedan.

Those aren’t gimmicks, they’re differentiators.

How about “Character”?

Every time I respond to you, I reference you as CANADA. As in, you are the embodiment of all that is Canadian.

Is “Hoondai” Candian for “Hyundai”?

If Phaeton were a brand, it would be known for it’s Passatness.

Mine has the Comfort & Cold Weather package. Heated, cooled, massaging seats in front and back is very nice indeed.

That’s what makes them good. Old money rich people don’t give two shits what others think of their car’s styling, it’s all about what’s on the inside. That’s what the mid-2000s Maybach was designed for.

Kinja'd!!!

It looks like an old S-Class, becuase it’s SUPPOSED to look like an old S-Class.

Alfa isn’t a luxury brand in my eyes. Also LOL @ Infiniti being lumped in with BMW.
